From Pottery to Visual Art

FROM POTTERY TO VISUAL ART
International ceramics exhibition

Teijon Masuuni 20.7. - 28.8.2016

Eleven ceramicists from Finland, Italy and Norway are presenting their works in the Teijon Masuuni gallery this summer to express the idea that ceramics goes beyond pure pottery to reveal its intrinsic value as visual art and design.

The curator Tiina Harjola has worked together with Johanna Rytkölä and Pirjo Eronen to create this unique and intriguing collaborative artistic venture. Quite often, the boundary between visual applied art and design is very subtle, and as mutable as the line that forms between sea and sky. The aim of this international exhibition is to stimulate discussion on this theme among Italian and Nordic ceramicists and the public. And thus proposing this event as a platform to share ideas on the future of ceramics everywhere.

The ceramics will be placed in the exhibition area of Teijon Masuuni Gallery, in the heart of the Teijo National park, providing a spacious and open venue in nature, an ideal setting and background for this exciting international art show. This lovely park also draws many visitors during the summer months. The participating artists will be setting up the exhibit and will be attending the
inauguration to talk with the public. All the works are for sale.

The artists are:

Elettra Cipriani, Italy

Annalisa Guerri, Italy

Pirjo Eronen, Finland/Italy

Aura Kajas, Finland/Italy

Tiina Harjola, Finland

Johanna Rytkölä, Finland

Brit Dyrnes , Norway

Anne Marie Hagerup, Norway

Barbro Hernes, Norway

Mette Strom, Norway

Guri Sandvik, Norway

The idea for this collaborative event was conceived in the summer of 2012 at the ceramics event “ARGILLA'” in Faenza, Italy. Finnish ceramicists had been invited to participate as honoured guests in this famed ceramics town. The following summer, Pirjo Eronen, together with the cultural Associazione Chirone, organised the successful ceramics event “From Pottery to Plastic” at the Polo Culturale di Tolfa, in this charming medieval town not far from Rome, with Italian, Finnish and Norwegian ceramicists.
