Italian composer among the finalists in the International Uuno Klami Composition Competition

 

ITALIAN COMPOSER AMONG THE  FINALISTS NAMED IN THE III INTERNATIONAL UUNO KLAMI COMPOSITION COMPETITION 13 – 14.11.2014

The  names  of  the  finalists  in  the  III  International Uuno  Klami  Composition  Competition,  which attracted a record number of entries, have now been announced. At a two-day session the prestigious  Jury of internationally-acclaimed members – composers Kalevi Aho and Magnus Lindberg (Finland), composer Erkki-Sven Tüür (Estonia) and conductor Yasuo Shinozaki (Japan) – selected the following  five works for the finals:

Alexander Muno, 34, Germany: Martialis EpigrammataTeodor Nicolau, 66, Finland/Romania: Mioritic rootsAxel Ruoff, 56, Germany: Sinfonietta Luca Vago, 42, Italy: Suite de los espejos, eight poems by Federico Garcia Lorca Sauli Zinovjev, 24, Finland: Gryf

The  competition  for  composers  living  in  Europe  announced  in  January  2013  had  a  tremendous response,  for  the  Competition  Office  received  a  total  of  265  entries  representing  no  fewer  than 37 nationalities.  This participation figure makes the Klami one of the world’s most popular composition competitions.

The Kymi Sinfonietta conducted by Yasuo Shinozaki will give the world premiere performance of all five  works  selected  for  the  finals  at  two  exciting  concerts:  at  the  Kuusankoski  Hall  at  7  pm  on Thursday November 13, 2014 and at the Kotka Concert Hall at 7 pm on Friday November 14, 2014. The Jury will decide the winner only after hearing both finals concerts. The composers will be present  in  person  at  the  finals  concerts  and  their  rehearsals.  The  results  will  be  announced  and  the prizes awarded immediately after the concert in Kotka. The Finnish Broadcasting Company (Yle) will be  broadcasting  the  Kotka  concert  live  and  the  presenter  will  be  Yle  news  presenter  Jussi-Pekka Rantanen.  Tickets  for  the  finals  concerts  are  on  sale  at  Lippupalvelu  (Ticketmaster  Finland).

The patron of the III International Uuno Klami Composition Competition is the President of the Republic, Mr Sauli Niinistö.
