FRANCESCA FINI, ITALY

FAIR AND LOST (PERFORMANCE ART, 20’)

Finland:Kamppi Shopping Centre E-Level – 17th / 18th October

“Fair and Lost” deals with the monstrosity of social conditioning. During the performance, Fini wears electrodes on both arms as she attempts to apply makeup. Electric shocks cause involuntary muscle contractions in her hands spreading the makeup all over her face. The hysterical, uncontrollable, movement of the hand represents the disease of social habits, revealing their fragility when the system is brought to a collapsing point.

THE PLAYHUB (PERFORMANCE ART, 20’)

Finland:Helsinki Art Museum – 17th October

“The Playhub” is a playful relational piece aiming to overcome natural proxemic barriers through the involvement of the audience in something that looks like a game. “The Playhub” is basically a performance encouraging physical contact and recognition of the other, using the power of the game to challenge audience creativity.

Francesca Fini is an Italian artist working with mixed media, video and performance art. Her live projects, always addressing social and political issues, are mixed with lo-fi technology, homemade interaction design devices, live audio and video. She hacks and cracks everyday objects such as surveillance cameras, wii-mote sensors and therapeutic electrodes, mostly used to give an ironic flavor to her work. “Technology is interesting, but rather than calling your smartphone, I prefer to twist your stomach talking to you through plastic cups connected with a string”.
